Sunday trip to the Tsar summer palace

 21 february 2017

Many of Moscow museums have free access every third Sunday of the month. On 19 February our professor Elena Grigorievna Suvorkina took her group on excursion to the Tsaritsyno park.

This is a very old place where you can find ancient Slavic burial mounds of XI-XIII centuries. The old wooden sculptures of Slavic gods remind us of the history of this place.

In 1775 Catherine the Great decided to built a summer residence. The palace was to be built by talented Russian architects V.I.Bazhenov and M.F.Kazakov. Yet the construction wasn't finished because Catherine died. Only in 2007 the palace was finally finished. At the moment there's an interesting exhibition there telling the story of the most interesting palaces of the Romanov family. This is where the family of Nikolay II lived.

The students enjoyed Tsaritsyno and we recommend it to everyone who loves history and culture.
